RIP Patrick Swayze

The best way I can think of to pay tribute the late Patrick Swayze is to encourage you to read this great article from Noel Murray at The Onion A.V. Club. It was published in 2007 prior to the disclosure of Swayze’s battle with cancer, but the wisdom derived from his legacy holds true.

Fall Premiere Week is dead, the networks just won’t admit it

Michael Schneider wrote this great article for Variety explaining exactly why the broadcast networks’ model for Fall Premiere Week is long overdue for cancellation. I can’t state the case any better than Schneider, so I’ll simply add this:

Incredible Cable Shows that debuted on a non-traditional schedule

  • Damages
  • Rescue Me
  • Leverage
  • Mad Men
  • Royal Pains
  • Raising the Bar
  • True Blood
  • Breaking Bad
  • Nip/Tuck
  • Burn Notice
  • Monk
  • Psych
  • In Plain Sight
  • The Tudors
  • Weeds

Whatever was going to air on the big three networks tonight has been bumped for President Obama’s healthcare speech, but those lovable renegades over at FOX will air the season premieres of So You Think You Can Dance and Glee as scheduled. I don’t care about Dance, but I’ve been looking forward to Glee ever since they showed us the pilot back in May. Glee airs at 9/8c.

Mike Rowe stars in a salute to hard work when Discovery airs 18 hours of classic Dirty Jobs episodes, starting at 8am Central on Labor Day. That should keep us satisfied until Season 6 of Dirty Jobs premiers on October 6th. The new season will return to it’s normal time slot of 9/8c on Tuesdays.
