Banished: Secret Girlfriend

I have discovered the Comedy Central version of karma. For every Chapelle’s Show, there must be a Mind of Mencia.

Unfortunately for the creators of Secret Girlfriend, they are on the Mencia end of that equation. The only reason I put this show on my grid to begin with is because I was going to be recording South Park anyway, so I might as well check out the new show after it. Apparently the first-person POV is supposed to be entertaining, but then I suppose the makers of the Doom movie thought that too.

Thursday Premieregasm Tonight!

Just a quick reminder of tonight’s big premieres:

Survivor: Samoa
Fringe
SNL Weekend Update Thursday
Community
Parks and Recreation
The Office
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia

I’ll be recording them all, but I’ll probably only watch Fringe, The Office, Sunny, and Survivor tonight. The rest (plus a new Project Runway) will have to wait for this weekend.

Banished – Sons of Anarchy

I was planning to reserve judgement on this one until watching the second episode, but I could only manage to get through half of episode two before hitting the delete button.  I realized that the biggest problem with this show is the creators didn’t bother to give the viewer any compelling reasons to root for the bad boys who are supposed to be the protagonists.  About twenty minutes into the episode two, it occurred to me that all I had seen was that these bikers were a bunch of racists who run guns.  Note to FX – your own network has several examples of how to make viewers love characters who are assholes.  See Nip/Tuck, Rescue Me, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia for more information.

By the way, I’ve decided to stick with the regal theme and ‘banish’ the shows that I no longer plan to watch.  Not to be confused with cancelled shows, to which I’ll add the ‘RIP’ moniker.

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia Season 4

Just finished watching the two episode premiere of the new season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia on FX.  First, I have to thank Mark at work for reminding me what a great show this is so I could catch up on season three, which I missed on the first airing.  Second, any show that includes both gorilla mask and waterboarding in the premiere has to kick ass.  Third and finally, you should know that the beauty of the show is that you can jump on board at any time.  Granted, you will miss some of the self-referential bits, but you’ll still get the majority of the funny.
